In an article on the impact of hard water on our skin and hair, Byron discusses the differences between hard and soft water and recommends professional filtration systems to permanently soften your water at home.
According to Byron, it is the mineral quality that affect the hardness of our water: "It may have flowed through limestone and chalk, which leaves deposits of calcium and magnesium. Soft water, on the other hand, is largely free of minerals - falling rain, for example."
