World Water Day is an annual campaign aiming to raise awareness about the world water crisis and advocate for safe, clean water for all. This year, World Water Day falls on Friday 22nd March and ProEconomy can’t wait to be part of the global campaign for safer water.
World Water Day 2019 Aims
Sustainable Development Goal 6 strives for water for all by 2030. However, today billions of people still live without safe water making daily life a constant struggle.
World Water Day was set up to change this, campaigning for safe water for everyone and tackling the water crisis head on. Each year the global initiative has a theme and in 2019 that theme is ‘Leaving no one behind’. Marginalised groups, such as women, children, the disabled, refugees and indigenous people, are ones who can get left behind when it comes to campaigning for clean, safe water. Therefore, this year, World Water Day hopes to address the reasons that so many are getting left behind and ensure that everyone benefits from the fight for safe water.
What Happens On World Water Day?
In order to safe water for all, attitudes, regulations and legal frameworks need to change and include everyone, particularly marginalised groups.
So, how can we all work to achieve this on World Water Day?
Organisers are asking you to share the reality of the water crisis, and how it affects everyday people, across social media and with friends and family. There are useful, interactive resources online that can help you spread the message about safe water.
Plus, you can hold an event or activity to raise critical water issues and make a difference to people living without safe water. There are loads of events being held worldwide for World Water Day 2019, so why not find one near you.
